About Geisel Monument Oregon

The Geisel Monument State Heritage Site isn’t a large park with a lot of activities. It’s a small wayside park commemorating the Geisel family, homesteaders who were victims of the Rogue River Indian War in the 1850s. There isn’t a lot to do here besides pay your respects and enjoy a quiet picnic.  There are picnic tables available at the site.

Learn about the Rogue River Indian War: The Rogue River Indian War was a brutal conflict between the U.S. government and several indigenous tribes of southwestern Oregon. The war lasted from 1855 to 1856 and resulted in the displacement and deaths of many Native Americans. You can learn more about the war at the Curry County Historical Society Museum in Gold Beach.
